Our Thoughts
I recall so many memories of playing Uno with my family and friends growing up and through the years Mattel has put different “spins” on the game. The original Uno will be a game that generations will continue to play. Uno Roboto is a quick witted robot who adds punch to your Uno game. Play begins with each player recording their name into Uno Roboto and then Roboto will pick who starts (this is ingenious if you are playing with younger kids who constantly argue as to who gets start).
We had good friends from out of state visit us after receiving our Uno Roboto, so this was the perfect time to have a “game night”. We all recorded our names and tried to figure out our house rule; because of course everyone had their input. We finally settled on running around the table which led to lots of laughs as the night continued. I think the funniest part of playing Uno Roboto is when you are asked to create a nickname for another player and that become their name for the rest of the game. We had a blast coming up with funny names for one another just waiting for Uno Roboto to call on “stinky britches” or “smarty pants”. It was hard to believe that we are a bunch of 30 something year olds playing together.
The next day we played with our 4 year old son. While he is a little younger than the age recommendations, he was able to grasp the concept of the game well. I also believe that allowing him to play helps him continue to learn colors, numbers as well as how to play games whether you win or lose. He truly enjoyed recording his name in Uno Roboto and listening to what may be said next. He enjoyed being the one to pick our house rule, which was to complete 10 jumping jacks since he is so excited to do them.
All in all, playing with Uno Roboto whether with friends or family was filled with fun and laughter and new way to look at the Uno game. However, I will state that there were a issues with the game itself…1) At times it is difficult to hear Uno Roboto when playing (even with the volume turned up) this is because some of things being said are more difficult to understand and some are just hard to hear. 2) I did not prefer the new look of the Uno Roboto cards (they no longer state reverse, skip, draw 2, etc.). I just felt like this was something that did not need to be changed. Uno Roboto would make an excellent addition to a game collection and would add plenty of laughter and fun to a family who enjoys game night.
